Left-wing students organisation AISA today staged a protest in Delhi University's North Campus over "reduction" of seats in the MA English course and demanded the varsity roll back the decision.

The students alleged that DU alloted seats to only 299 students against 425 students admitted last year.

"The Delhi University's English department has silently cut down its seats for the Masters program by 30 per cent," AISA said in a press release.

The organisation also submitted a memorandum to the VC on the issue.

DU's AISA president Kawalpreet Kaur said, "At a time when the need is to increase seats in higher education, we are seeing a seat cut in various institutions. It was in JNU where we saw more than 80 per cent seat cuts in its research programs and now DU seems to be following suit.
