The Anand Marriage Amendment Bill, 2012, introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, envisages registration of marriages performed as per Sikh rituals.

The proposed amendments did not give a separate identity to the Sikh religion, the All India Sikh Students Federation said.

"Amendment to Article 25 of the Constitution is the only solution acceptable to Sikhs since it will give the community a separate identity," AISSF chief Karnail Singh Peermohammad said.

The article 25 pertains to practice and propagation of religion.

The AISSF would submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on May 15 demanding amendment to Article 25, he said.
