All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) today denounced the protests against Aamir Khan-starrer 'PK', which has stirred controversy after religious outfits staged protests.

The religious groups have demanded a ban on the movie while calling for the removal of certain objectionable scenes to ensure communal harmony.

"We denounce the communal and fundamentalist forces which are trying to trample and suffocate the freedom of speech and expression, art and culture," AITUC General Secretary Christopher Fonseca told reporters here today.

"The insinuations, false propaganda and the shrill cries to ban the instructive film is a live example. I find it foolish that people are protesting against such a movie. They should see the film (PK) and reform themselves," said the leader, who was addressing a press conference to highlight the failure of Narendra Modi led government on various fronts.

Fonseca said some leaders are trying to divert the attention from crucial issues through communal tension.

"The Union government is shielding the communal forces which is giving them the courage to protest against the movie on the streets and attack theatres," he alleged.

Various religious organisations have been protesting against 'PK' with some groups attacking the theatres where the movie was screened.
