"We are much ahead of the Congress. In fact, Congress will be holding its first election rally only on November 25, while by then we would have already held 15 mass rallies. So we can confidently say that we are 15 times ahead of the Congress," AIUDF President and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal told reporters here.

The panchayat elections in the Northeast state are slated for January next year.

AIUDF organised a mass rally here which was attended by over 30,000 people.

Success in the panchayat polls would lay the groundwork for the party's campaign in 2014 and state assembly polls in 2016, Ajmal said.

"Our aim is to win at least six of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in the state in 2014," Ajmal said. The party had won one a single seat in the 2009 parliamentary polls.

Regarding prospects for an alliance during the January panchayat polls, Ajmal said so far no party has approached AIUDF.

"Our policy so far is Ekla Chalo (Go Alone). We have not received any request. If any secular party approach us, we may look into the matter," he said.

AIUDF criticised the Tarun Gogoi government for the handling of the recent incidents of violence in Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts (BTAD).

"It is four months since the first round of violence took place. No action has been taken against the guilty and illegal arms have not been seized even now," he said.

Ajmal said he do not want to make the BTAD violence an issue in the panchayat polls, but added "If the government fails to bring to bring the situation under control, then we will be forced to raise the issue."

Asked if he still stood by his earlier comments blaming BJP for communalising the situation in Assam and inciting violence in BTAD, he said: "One hundred per cent. I am still maintaining it. The AASU and Bodo groups should be beware of BJP's gameplan."
