People in groups and families flocked together in the streets to take photographs using the lights and decorations as backgrounds.
Christmas is not only a time for giving, but also a time for acquiring new things including clothes and other garments.
Social workers said that distribution of gifts to the poor, the sick and less fortunate people including the inmates of homes for orphans, addicts and women in distress, hospitals and jails, increased tremendously this year.
"More and more people, organisations including facebook groups stepped out to become Santa Klaus and reached out to the poor people in the villages as well as among the urban poor," a social worker said.
