The All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association (AJHLA) said that it will launch a campaign for reopening of this route for trade.

"We welcome the statement made by chief minister that he would take up with the Centre the issue of reopening Jammu-Sialkot route for travel and trade. We have decided to launch a concerted drive and campaign for opening of this road as a major confidence building measure between the two countries," president of the association, Inderjeet Khajuria, said here today.

Khajuria said he would soon call a meeting of representatives of various trade and travel organisations connected with tourism to form a united front and chalk out an action to see that the road is opened soon.

AJHLA has demanded that the Suchetgarh border post should be developed on the pattern of Wagah border post.

"This will promote tourism in Jammu and also help Jammu region, the state and even Pakistan side of Punjab economically," he said.

Yesterday, Omar had said he will recommend reopening of the route to the Centre to give fillip to people to people contact and enhance trade between India and Pakistan.
