In a much-awaited result in the ongoing cooperatives elections in Western Maharashtra, the panel fielded by NCP leader Ajit Pawar today managed to retain its hold over the Someshwar sugar cooperative factory in Baramati taluka, the citadel of Pawars in the district.
The election had assumed a political significance in backdrop of the surprising defeat suffered recently by the Pawar panel in the poll held at the Malegaon sugar cooperative in Baramati, another factory controlled by the family for many years.
The panel of former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister won 16 out of the 21 seats on the Board of the Someshwar sugar cooperative, according to reports reaching here.
The Ajit supporters were pitted against the members of the rival Kakde panel.
