All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (AJKPC) has appealed to the state government to grant compensation to the next of kin of the elected panches and sarpanches who have been killed by the terrorists.
"We appeal to the state government to award adequate compensation to the families and next of kin of the elected panches and sarpanches who have been killed by terrorists from 2011 till date," AJKPC president Anil Sharma said.
He said the state government must rehabilitate and award compensation to the families of Panchayat members who sacrificed their lives for democracy.

Besides, he demanded compensation for the victims of acts of terrorism, citing the example of a woman Panch, Zona Begum from Kashmir, who had lost sight in one eye due to bullet injuries by terrorists about three years ago.
He said her family had not received any compensation and she was finding it hard to get money for treatment and feed the family.
Replying to queries of participants in the awareness program aboutsignificance of 73rd amendment of Constitution, he said in states, except Jammu and Kashmir, the Panchayats, after implementation of the amendment, are authorised to issue various certificates of public utilities like birth, income, character-antecedent, registration of death, identification of BPL persons and the people there avail all these services without any hassle.
