Ajsu leader Kamal Kishore Bhagat lost his Jharkhand Assembly membership, a week after being sentenced to seven years imprisonment by a local court.

Speaker Dinesh Oraon yesterday issued the notification of disqualification against him with effect from June 23, a senior official with the Assembly secretariat said here today.

With his disqualification, the Assembly strength has been reduced to 81, including a nominated MLA.

Ajsu party, which won five seats in the third Assembly elections after the state's creation on November 15, 2000, has now four MLAs.

Bhagat, who won the December Assembly polls from Lohardaga, was awarded the prison sentence by the court of Additional Judicial Commissioner Krishna Kumar in a case of attack on a doctor in 1993.
