A Shiromani Akali Dal village head was shot dead allegedly by three motorcycle-borne persons over an old enmity here, police said today.
According to an FIR registered on the complaint of Surinderpal Kaur, mother of the village head, her son Beant Singh (26) was last night shot dead by the three persons, police said.
Police investigation found that the head of Manuke village was facing four criminal cases. Two murder cases, including one in connection with former Akali MLA Malkeet Singh Keetu's killing in 2012, were also pending against him.
The Sarpanch was murdered over old enmity, according to the police probe.
Police have launched a hunt to nab the accused.
