Akhilesh asks Centre to ban Chinese 'Manjha' import

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today requested the Centre to ban import of Chinese 'manjha' (string used to fly kite) keeping in view accidents caused by it.

"The Chief Minister has drawn the attention of MoS in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Nirmala Sitaraman towards accidents caused by Chinese 'manjha' and requested her to seriously consider banning its import," an official spokesperson said here.

The state government has directed district administrations to take legal action to prevent use, sale and making of such strings keeping in mind loss of human, birds and cattle lives, he said.

A directive in this regard has been sent to all district magistrates and police chiefs, senior officers of industrial and urban development departments, the spokesperson said.
 

Lives were lost in Moradabad and Allahabad districts due to such strings and a writ was filed in Allahabad High Court to ban it, he added.
