Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today asked Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar to grant permission to complete the half-constructed bridges over Gomti river here.
"In a letter to the Defence Minister, Yadav requested him to give permission to complete 160.68-metre bridge on Gomti river between Dilkusha and Janeshwar Mishra park," an official spokesperson said here.
Construction of the bridge started in May this year and was 40 per cent complete, but it is pending from Dilkusha side due to objection by the Army.
The CM said from Dilkusha side the army has claimed 152- metre length of the bridge belongs to them and as that of cantonment board.
Yadav said during the joint survey in July by the Army, PWD, ridge Corporation and revenue department and stressed that for construction of approach road, army's land was not needed and
only working permission was required.
He said that Principal Secretary PWD wrote a letter to the Defence Ministry in August, but required permission has not been received so far.
Akhilesh has requested Parrikar to direct the officers at his level to issue working permission.
He said that construction of the bridge would ease traffic pressure in the city and people would get relief from the problem of jam.
