Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav today instructed the party office-bearers and workers to help people stranded in the flood-affected areas.

"The Samajwadi Party has always been at the forefront to help people during a crisis. There should be no laxity in helping the families by providing them food, clothes and shelter," Yadav said here in a statement.

Attacking the state's ruling BJP, Akhilesh said, "It is sad that the BJP government did not take any preventive measures in time which resulted in inundation of several villages."

"Crops were also damaged. The water level in many of the rivers is rising. In the past one week, a large number of rain-related deaths have been reported and normal life has been thrown out of gear," he added.

According to officials, at least 92 people have been killed and 91 injured in rain-related incidents in Uttar Pradesh since last week.

The SP also blamed the water-logging in the state capital on the BJP.

"There has been huge laxity in cleaning of drains, construction of drains and roads. Most of the sewerage lines are choked and waste disposal system is in shambles, and it is on this waste material and garbage that the chief minister wants to lay the foundation of smart cities," SP general secretary Rajendra Chaudhary said.
