Batting for farmers hit by the Centre's sudden demonetisation move, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to make special arrangements for the farmers who are in the middle of the winter cropping season.

He said farmers who had already harvested their Kharif crops and were hoping to use cash reserves to buy the next tranche of seeds, fertilisers and pesticides for sowing Rabi crops, have been left to fend for themselves after the sudden announcement.

Akhilesh also referred to the ongoing wedding season and said many farmers had already scheduled the weddings of their children and the preparations have been badly hit.

He said if the BJP government at the Centre really cared for the community, it should make some special arrangements for them to help them tide over the current situation.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister said the problems people are facing due to demonetisation of high-value currency notes are not going to go away soon.

"Earlier the Centre said the problem will vanish in a week or 10 days now they are saying it will take 50 days. But if we see, the problem can continue for 2-2.5 months," he said.

Akhilesh also said it requires efforts from everybody to get rid of black money.
