Actor Akshay Kumar has shared a video message with students going through exam stress where he has advised them against bottling up their emotions.

The 49-year-old actor, who will receive the National Award for best actor for his performance in "Rustom" today, took to Twitter to share an anecdote from his childhood in an almost five-minute-long clip.

Akshay said he owes the prestigious award to his parents and remembered how supportive they were when he scored poorly in his exams.

"My father sat me down and calmly asked me what I wanted to do. I told him I was interested in sports. As time passed, I got into martial arts after sports, which was followed by modelling and acting.

"I feel if that day my parents had not supported me, winning the National Award would seem like a distant dream," he said.

Akshay also urged the parents to take more interest in their children's lives and treat mental illness like any other medical issue.

He implored the youth "not to take life lightly" and understand its value.

"Don't bottle up your emotions. Share them with your near and dear ones. Suicide is no solution to end stress," Akshay added.
