Alert driver prevents possible train mishap

An alert driver prevented a possible train mishap when he applied brake in time after copper wire entwined with the wheels of the engine on the city outskirts today.

The Nilgiri Express from Chennai on its way to Mettupalayam when the driver heard some noise and noticed that copper wire pieces got entangled in two wheels of the engine and immediately stopped the train, police said.

The copper wire attached to the track to a distance of one km from Narasimhapalayam to Therkupalayam, was stolen by some miscreants, who threw some pieces on the track.

Had the train been not stopped in time, it could have met with mishap, they said.
 

The wire pieces were removed with the help of nearby villagers and train continued its journey, police said.
