The Assam bound New Delhi-Guwahati Rajdhani Express today escaped an accident timely in Bihar's Khagaria district when a gangman spotted a crack in track and alerted the driver to stop the train.

The Express was supposed to pass through Chaidhabanni halt, where fracture in the track was located, between Mansi and Maheshkhunt stations on Barauni-Katihar rail section of Sonepur division of East Central Railway (ECR) zone.

ECR Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) Rajesh Kumar told PTI that Railway gangman, while patrolling the section between Mansi-Maheskhunt, saw the fracture in the track and placed a detonator before running with banner flag to stop the incoming train.

The loco pilot of 12424 Guwahati Rajdhani Express upon seeing the red banner flag stopped the train much before the point at which fracture was detected, he said.

The train was stopped after the driver applied the emegency brake and the train did not pass over the fractured track, the CPRO said.

"There has not been any lapse in safety," he added.

The ECR CPRO hailed villagers for assisting the Railway officials in avoiding accident.

The Rajdhani Express was halted for around 40 minutes at the site from 0802 hour to 0845 hour, he said adding the train proceeded after the fractured rail was repaired by the Railway personnel.

Meanwhile, an inquiry committee of officers has been nominated into the incident, the ECR CPRO said.
