An alert was sounded and security beefed up in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, bordering Pathankot, following reports about suspicious movement of two persons in army fatigue in the region.

Chamba Superintendent of Police Varinder Tomar said that information regarding movement of two suspicious persons in army uniform was received and security arrangements were tightened and preventive steps like nakas, patrolling, searches and other measures were taken immediately.

CCTV footage was scanned to pinpoint the culprits but nothing had been found yet, he said.

He said, "We had sought information from the army authorities in adjoining areas and they have informed that no army personnel was sent Himachal Pradesh."

"We are taking all precautionary and preventive steps to ensure that no untoward incident takes place and there is no cause for panic," he added.

Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh also said that information has been received regarding movement of some suspicious people in Chamba and the police have taken all preventive and precautionary measures.

Chamba shares border with Punjab's Pathankot district, where cross-border terrorists attacked an Air Force base last week.
