An alert has been sounded in Uttar Pradesh, specially in crowded and sensitive areas, in view of the bomb blast outside BJP office in Bangalore today.

The respective district police officials have been asked to maintain extra vigil in view of the blast, IG (law and order) R K Vishkarma told reporters here.

The officials have been asked to maintain extra precaution in crowded and sensitive areas, he said.

At least 16 people, including 11 policemen, were injured in the bomb blast near the bustling Karnataka BJP city office in a crowded residential area, ahead of the May 5 Assembly elections.

The bomb, apparently strapped to a motorbike parked between a van and a car, went off at around 10.30 AM, injuring the policemen on duty. The state government has called it as a "clear act of terror".
