An undertrial prisoner made an unsuccessful attempt to give a slip to police when he was being escorted to Navghar police station from Thane Central Jail, police said today.

The incident occurred yesterday when Salman Rafique Ansari (21) complained of giddiness and requested police constables escorting him for tea, while on their way to Navghar police station, said sub-inspector V R Bankar of Kasarwadavali police station.

After drinking tea at a roadside stall, Ansari threw out and at the same time he shoved the constables and tried to flee. "However, he was overpowered by the alert constables," said Bankar.

Ansari, a resident of suburban Malad, was arrested for robbery under section 392 of IPC.

A case under section 224 of IPC was booked under Ansari on the complaint of one of the members of the escort team, Bankar said.
