Alert residents with the help of police allegedly foiled an attempt of the robbers to loot an ATM in Hansi.
Last night four robbers stole a van from Rohtak and then removed a State Bank of India ATM in Model Town in Hansi, about 26 km from here, trying to decamp with it, police said today.
When the robbers attempted to load the ATM, which was located on the ground floor in the van, the residents living on the first floor of the complex, rang up police.

The robbers turned their van towards Anipura village and brandished a gun at the police but unaware of the path ahead when the robbers turned back their van it hit a tree.
The robbers then jumped out of the van and escaped under the cover of the darkness, police said.
According to SHO city police station Hansi, Prahlad Singh, police was hopeful of nabbing the accused at the earliest.
Tarun Kumar, manager of the bank, today said cash amounting to about Rs 8 lakh was lying in the ATM which was saved due to the alertness of residents and the police.
A case was registered by Hansi police today against the robbers.
