An alert driver prevented an accident by stopping the Karaikal-Bangalore passenger train after detecting a technical fault in a bogie at a level-crossing gate near the railway station here.
Railway sources said following an unusual sound which emanated from the bogie, the driver stopped the train and found that the vacuum tube which supports its brake-lever had burst.
Technical experts along with a police team rushed to the spot and attended to the fault, and the train resumed its journey after half-an-hour.

Sources said the train came in late at 5 pm instead of its regular arrival time of 3 pm at the Dharmapuri station. The train, which left at 5.15 pm, was stopped after ten minutes when it touched the level crossing gate no: 47 on the Dharmapuri-Bangalore BG line following the technical problem.
Due to the snag, Train No: 12678 Ernakulam-Bangalore Intercity, which was already running late, left the station only at 6.02 pm after arriving at 5.36 pm instead of its scheduled time of 4.45 pm.
Road traffic was affected for 40 minutes on the Dharmapuri-Pennagaram road in Kadahathur villager where the level crossing gate 47 is situated.
