Actress Sigourney Weaver says spin-off of the popular 1979 movie "Alien" was the reason why director Ridley Scott never continued the franchise.
The 65-year-old actress, who played Ellen Ripley in the science-fiction horror film, said the news about "Alien vs Predator" being made had depressed her, reported Digital Spy.
"I heard that Fox was gonna do Alien vs Predator (around the time of Alien 3). Which really depressed me because I was very proud of the movies.

The actress said because of the announcement of the spin-off, Scott never made "Alien 3".
"In fact, Ridley Scott was about to direct a third one, until this was announced, and he dropped out, because he also wanted to do an Alien sequel.... I think it caused more problems than it was worth."
Weaver will be back in the role of alien hunter Ellen Ripley for "Alien 5", which is expected to take place after 1986's Aliens without ignoring the events of the final two proper sequels.
"Alien 5" is scheduled to release in 2017.
