All 13 accused found guilty in Labhpur gang rape case

A local court today found all the 13 accused guilty in the gang rape of a tribal woman at Labhpur in Birbhum district in January this year.

The court of additional district and sessions judge Siddthartha Roychowdhury which found the accused guilty, will pronounce the quantum of punishment tomorrow.

The judge found all the 13 guilty under Sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 376(2)(g) (gang rape) of the IPC.

The 20-year-old tribal woman was gang raped at Subalpur village under Labhpur police station on January 21 by the accused as a punishment for having an affair with a man from another community.
 

The punishment was awarded by a Kangaroo court in the village.

A police complaint was lodged on January 22 against the 13 persons.

The young woman was admitted to Suri hospital and after a week's treatment she was transferred to a NGO-run government approved home at Suri. She has been there since then.
