All but one Punjab Assembly member vote in Presidential poll

In Haryana, 89 MLAs cast their vote in the state Assembly while one member, Haryana Janhit Congress MLA Renuka Bishnoi, exercised her franchise in New Delhi for the election witnessing a direct fight between Pranab Mukherjee and P A Sangma.

Renuka had taken prior permission from authorities to allow her to cast vote at New Delhi, officials said.

In the Punjab Assembly, Congress member Arvind Khanna did not vote as he was indisposed, officials said.

Khanna, a close aide of Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh, had taken prior permission and intimated to party officials that he would be unable to cast his vote, Congress sources said.

 

Prominent among those who cast their votes in Punjab, included Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, his deputy Sukhbir Singh Badal, Amarinder and leader of opposition Sunil Kumar Jakhar.

In Haryana, the key voters included Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, leader of opposition Om Parkash Chautala and state BJP chief Krishanpal Gujjar.

In the 117-member Punjab Assembly, SAD had 56 MLAs with its ally BJP 12 MLAs, Congress 46 and there are three independents.

The strength of Congress in Haryana's 90-member House is 46, INLD 30, BSP one, SAD one, BJP four, HJC one and seven independents.
