Calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi the biggest brand ambassador for Khadi, chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) Vinai Kumar Saxena today said that the government is making all efforts to popularise Khadi by making its design contemporary.
Saxena, who was in the city to chair a meeting of Khadi institutions and inaugurate a Khadi exhibition, said that 20 modern outlets of Khadi including one in Jaipur will be opened soon.
"Our target is to double the sale of Khadi and reach out to youths of the country. We are making contemporary designs and have engaged designers," he told reporters.

"As far as a brand ambassador is concerned, Prime Minister is the biggest ambassador for Khadi. I hope that the Khadi sale will gear up and will be much popular among youths," he said.
Earlier, addressing a meeting of Khadi institutions to review the progress of various government programmes for Khadi, Saxena said that the board has taken several important decisions to popularise and increase sale of Khadi products and is in talks with military and railway and other establishments to find scope for Khadi.
During his two-day visit which began today, he will be meeting bankers, handmade paper manufactures, weavers and Khadi activists besides the Khadi institutions.
