All five double gangrape accused convicted

A district court today pronounced five accused in the double gangrape of a 16-year old girl guilty and would pronounce the quantum of their punishment tomorrow.

Santanu Jha, second additional district judge at Barasat court, pronounced all the five accused guilty under sections 363 (kidnapping), 376(2)(g) (kidnapping) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC.

The daughter of a taxi driver, the girl had been kidnapped and gangraped by five local youths at Madhyamgram in North 24-Parganas district on October 25, 2013.

She was again gangraped by the same youths while returning from a police station after lodging a complaint.

The girl died of burn injuries on December 31 last after having set herself on fire on December 23.
 

Sanjib Talukdar alias Chottu, Palaash Debnath, Papai Roy, Rajesh Mondal and Rajib Biswas were arrested in connection with the case and following their trial they were today convicted.
