The All India police band competition, which was inaugurated on October 7, saw 15 bands from state police and seven from central paramilitary forces, playing soulful music for the crowds as part of their public appearance.

The BSF was declared the overall winner of the competition which was held at its camp in south Delhi.

The bands, including brass, pipes and buglers, played military and patriotic songs like 'Mera rang de basanti chola', 'Kar chalein hum fida', 'Yeh desh hai veer jawanon ka' and 'Jahan dal dal par'.

The BSF band belted out 'Jai ho' from "Slumdog Millionaire" throwing the crowd in rapturous cheering and clapping.

Delhi Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna, who officially announced the end of the tournament, congratulated the teams.

Police bands are an integral part of a regimental unit and they keep the morale of their personnel high when they are out in combat.

The border guarding force is organising the annual contest this year.
