All India Vice Chancellor's T-20 Cricket Cup declared open

The state's Sports Minister R S Chib today declared meet open.

As many as twenty teams, including the host university side, are participating in the 15-day cricket tournament. The inaugural match was played between SKUAST-K and Punjabi University, Patiala.

The matches shall be played on league-cum-knock out basis in which each team shall play four matches in their respective pool and the two top teams from each pool will be selected for the quarter-finals.

Chib was the chief guest at the inaugural function, while vice-chancellor, Jammu University, Mohan Paul Singh Ishar presided over the function.

In his inaugural address, the minister said that Jammu University was a centre of excellence in curricular and extra-curricular activities as it has the distinction of winning the All India Vice Chancellor's Cricket Cup for two consecutive years in 2008-09 and 2009-10.

 

Highlighting the importance of sports, Chib said that the Union government was contemplating including performance in sports in the overall academic merit to promote sports among the students.
