Ramon Magsaysay awardee Anshu Gupta today came out in defence of the NGOs, saying the government should not "single out" the entire sector for the "mistake" committed by an NGO.
Referring to the Centre's recent crackdown on around 9,000 NGOs, Gupta said, "If somebody (NGO) is committing a mistake then it should be punished. But the entire sector (all the NGOs) should not be defamed because of the wrongdoings of a particular entity," Gupta said after being felicitated by the Indian Institute of Mass communication (IIMC) Alumni Association here.
Gupta, who founded 'Goonj' -- an NGO which works in the field of recycling used cloths, was awarded the prestigious Ramon Magasasay Award for his effort in recycling used cloths to make sanitary pads and other purposes.
