A meeting of the local leaders of various political parties and other organisations will be held here on November 6 in a bid to allay the fears of Mukkam people over the GAIL's LNG Project.

Kerala Industries Minister A C Moideen will preside over the meeting at the District Collectorate, District Collector U V Jose said today.

The meeting was being organised in aneffort to address the anxieties of the people over the project.

People of Mukkam under the banner of a protest council have been protesting for the past few months against the land acquisition for laying the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project pipeline and demanded a re-survey.

The protest turned violent in the past two days with the agitators allegedly pelting stones and blocking roads when when GAIL officials reached the place to continue land acquisition process for the project.

Meanwhile, former KPCC president V M Sudheeran and IUML leader P K Kunhalikutty, MP, today visited Mukkam to extend their support to the agitators.

Work to lay the pipeline restarted yesterday with police protection.

Under GAIL's Kochi-Koottanad-Bengaluru-Mangaluru LNG project, pipes will be laid for about 80 km in the district.
