All-party team visits open border area in Karimganj district

An all-party delegation of Assam Assembly visited Indo-Bangladesh open border area in Karimganj district today.

The delegation was led by Deputy Speaker Bhimananda Tanti and it conducted a study on the 2.27 km unfenced area in Lathitilla and Dumbari area, about 70 km away from district headquarters, according to an official release here.

The team also had an interaction with senior officials of BSF at Lathitilla.

"Earlier the team visited Sutarkandi Indo-Bangla trade centre and they exchanged sweet packets to Bangladesh Border Guard security personnel yesterday," the release said.

The all party team also inspected the patrolling system on the river Kusiara near Karimganj town.
 

The members of the team earlier paid floral tributes to the tomb of martyrs of Sepoy Mutiny of 1857 in Malegarh.

The delegation will submit a report to the state government, the release said.
