Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu today said all round development of Santal Paragana region as well as tribal community would be the real tribute to Santal Hul
Addressing a function organised on the occasion of "Hul Diwas" in Dumka today, Murmu said Hul Diwas being celebrated across the state but the real tribute to tribal freedom fighters would be to ensure all round development of the Santal Paragana region and the tribal community.
Santal rebellion against the British was launched on June 30, 1855 by tribal freedom fighter Sidhu Kanhu and his two brothers. The people of Santal Paragana region remember this day and pay their homage to the tribal leaders Sidhu, Kanhu, Chand-Vairab, Phulo-Jhano on the occasion of Hul Diwas, she said.
Murmu said the youth should have full knowledge about the importance of Hul Diwas and feel proud to have born on the land of warriors, who had bravely challenged the British rule.
Though it was considered that the freedom movement against Britishers was first launched in 1857 but the bugle of freedom movement was sounded first on June 30, 1855 from Bhognadih in Sahebgunj district of Jharkhand, the governor said.
The country can reach a new height If the feeling of patriotism was inculcated among the youths, she said.
The state and union government has launched various schemes for the development of tribal community and people should be aware about these scheme to avail the benefits, Murmu said.
