Senior Congress leader and former MP V Hanumantha Rao on Tuesday requested party leader Priyanka Gandhi to allot some time to meet and console families of three girls who were sexually assaulted and killed in a village in Telangana.

Rao said he wanted to take the families to meet her as "neither the Chief Minister nor any other minister had met and consoled them."

"I, therefore, want to bring the affected family members to your good self to listen and console them. Kindly give time and intimate me two or three days in advance so that I can bring them to Delhi," Rao said in a letter to Priyanka.

He said he had given Rs 10,000 to each family when he rushed to the village in Bhongir district after the gruesome incident came to light (in April this year).

He said he came to know that police officials had given Rs 20,000 to the families.

"However, giving monetary compensation is not enough. The families needed some consoling from higher-ups in the government," he said.

Hanumantha Rao alleged that neither the Chief Minister nor any minister had visited the families so far.

Soon after the incidents came to light, the accused was arrested.

Referring to Gandhi's recent visit to Sonabadra in Uttar Pradesh, where 10 tribals were killed, Rao said in the letter that Priyanka Gandhi's recent visit to Uttar Pradesh in connection with the Sonbhadra issue gave "much-needed boost to party workers across the country".

Talking about Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announcing benefits to the tune of Rs 10 lakh per family in his native village, Hanumantha Rao told reporters that he would not object to the announcement, but all villages in the state should be developed similarly.
