: Nutrition, exercise and sleep are the tripod of good health and fitness and one should eat nuts like almonds to cut back on eating greasy snacks that often fail to provide required nutrients, according to a well known Nutrition Specialist from the American Academy of Nutrition.
In an interaction with students of Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital here recently on 'Nutrition for an Active Lifestyle', Madhuri Ruia, said one struggled when it came to healthy eating and it was not easy for most people to find the right wholesome meal that can keep one going through the day.
However, a handful of almonds (30 grams/23 almonds) could be a convenient snack that can be eaten anywhere, anytime of the day; whether at home, work or on the go, she said.

Madhuri, an empanelled nutritionist with Almond Board of California, said it was important to incorporate a healthy lifestyle backed by a good workout regime and the significance of eating right.
Almonds have essential nutrients that ensure a wholesome, healthy and successful life and so its regular consumption is a small investment in health, a release quoting her said.
To a question on why should one consume almonds,she claimed the nuts are a source of 15 nutrients like vitamin E, dietary fiber,protein and very effective in weight management, maintaining good heart health and managing Diabetes.
To help to avoid lifestyle diseases like Diabetes and obesity,youngsters have to ensure they eat balanced meals.This can be structured as three big meals accompanied by two-three rounds of healthy and nutrient-dense snacking. This will help them avoid junk food cravings, she opined.
Suggesting that one make time to exercise every day, Madhuri asked the youth to take up racquet sport or outdoor sporting activities like football on weekends, sleep on time and wake-up on time (7-8 hours) most days of the week.
