A special multi-purpose ambulance, meant for treatment of animals in the tribal sub-plan areas of Rajasthan, was today flagged off by Governor Margaret Alva at the Raj Bhavan here.

Developed by the Rajasthan University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (RAJUVAS), Bikaner, the van is equipped with diagnosis, treatment and transportation facilities, a Raj Bhavan release said.

The ambulance will initially be deployed in the tribal belt of Udaipur, it said.

"If this initiative shows positive results, I will be happy to help the university acquire more such vans," Alva was quoted as saying.

She also inaugurated a 'Farmers' SMS Service', which will assist farmers in augmenting their agricultural output and taking care of their livestock.
