'Ama Police Samiti', a concept practiced in urban police stations of the state to take special care for the safety and security of the senior citizens, will now be extended to other parts of Odisha.
"In view of growing incidents of crime against senior citizens in the State, DGP K B Singh has instructed all SsP and DCPs of the State to take special care of them", said a Press Release issued by the State police headquarters here on Thursday.
Under Maintenance and Welfare of Senior Citizen Act of 2007 and subsequent Rules of 2009, the Urban Police Department (UPD) first formed the 'Samitis' in all the police stations of Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Commissionerate to instil a sense of security among the senior citizens.
Roping in the local NGOs for support, the officers of senior citizen security cell shall visit some of the registered members every week to look for their houses' physical security and verify the status of the domestic helps, if engaged, the Release said.
