Actress Amanda Bynes was arrested after she allegedly threw a bong out of her midtown apartment window when police showed up following a call from an employee of the building.

The troubled star has been booked on charges of reckless endangerment for throwing the bong out of the window, tampering with evidence and criminal possession of marijuana, reported E!News.

According to the police the doorman of the building called 911 to report that Bynes was smoking pot in the lobby.

When officers arrived, Bynes had already gone back to her apartment. They followed and, when she opened the door, saw a bong, used for smoking pot, which the actress threw out of the window.

The actress, who has been in legal trouble in the past for her erratic behaviour, was first taken to Roosevelt Hospital for psychiatric evaluation before being transported to a Midtown station for processing.

The officers noted smoke and the smell of marijuana in the apartment.

Bynes is reportedly being transferred to Manhattan Central Booking and will spend the night there before facing a judge.

The former child star pleaded no contest in Burbank, California two weeks ago to driving with a suspended license and was sentenced to three years' summary probation.

A driving under the influence (DUI) charge is still pending against her in Beverly Hills.

She was recently turned away from boarding a private jet after failing to produce an ID card. The actress apparently screamed at the pilot and told him to Google her name.
