Following a Rajasthan High Court order, a joint team of Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) and Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) has removed toxic seasonal vegetables from the 150-beegha catchment area of Amanishah Nullah passing through the pink city's outskirts.

Local breeders had been growing seasonal vegetables like tomato, okra and cauliflower, and other leafy veggies in the catchment area of Amanishah Nullah, receiving sewer waste from the entire city, for many years.

But the high court recently directed JDA and JMC to clean the area by May 19, a district PRO said today.

On the garb of vegetable cultivation, encroachers had grabbed the land and built small huts that too were removed in the joint operation in the past few days, the PRO said.

The court set up a committee with the Jaipur district collector as the nodal officer and commissioners of JDA, JMC, Rajasthan Housing Board, and Jaipur Police as members.

The court passed the order on a PIL that sought to remove encroachment on the nullah, according to the counsel for petitioner Poonam Bhandari.
