Amarinder calls meeting of DGPs, ADGPs

Amid rift among the top brass of the Punjab Police, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has called a meeting of all the state director general of police (DGPs) and additional director general of police (ADGPs) tomorrow here.

The chief minister's meeting with the top officials of the police assumes significance in the wake of some serious allegations levelled by a senior IPS officer against two DGPs in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on April 6.

"A meeting of all the DGPs and ADGPs has been called by the chief minister here tomorrow," a senior official said here today.

Singh may take up several important issues with the senior officials of police, though the agenda of the meeting was not disclosed.

 

The meeting will be attended by Director General of Police Suresh Arora (chief of police force), DGP (Intelligence) Dinkar Gupta and DGP (HRD) Siddharth Chattopadhyaya.

Chattopadhyaya, in an application before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, had accused Arora and Gupta of trying to drag him in a suicide case of the son of a former president of a century-old charitable-cum-educational body Chief Khalsa Dewan.

Chattopadhyaya had also accused the two DGP rank officers of "targeting" him in order to "disable" him from conducting inquiry to look into the complicity of SSP Moga Raj Jit Singh and a dismissed Inspector in a drug trafficking case.

The DGP (HRD) is leading a special investigation team constituted by the high court to investigate the role of SSP Moga and a dismissed police inspector in the case.

Amarinder Singh had taken a serious note of the alleged dissension among the top brass of the Punjab Police, saying he would not tolerate any indiscipline in the force.

The CM had also discussed the issue with state's Home Secretary NS Kalsi and DGP Suresh Arora. He had directed them to examine the matter and suggest suitable action, as necessary to resolve the same.

Amarinder Singh had said that any grievance by any member of the police force, including those against colleagues, should be routed through the well-established administrative procedures and channels laid down for the purpose.
