Punjab Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh will lead a party delegation to meet Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr Naseem Zaidi in New Delhi tomorrow and will demand imposition of President's rule in the state ahead of the Assembly elections.
The delegation will apprise the CEC of the prevailing situation in Punjab, which goes to the polls in about three months time, and urge the Commission to take all possible steps to ensure that the elections to the state Assembly are held in a free and fair manner, a party spokesman said here today.
Citing "total collapse of the administration order, as well as the law and order in the state", the Congress will reiterate its demand for imposition of President's rule in the state to ensure that elections are held in a free atmosphere, unhampered by the threat of violence and misuse of authority by the state government, he said.
