Amarnath yatra: Protest in Baltal over thrashing of driver

Taxi drivers and ponywallas staged violent protest against CRPF at Baltal base camp in Kashmir today after some force personnel allegedly thrashed a driver.

The CRPF jawans allegedly beat up a taxi driver following an altercation, police sources said, adding that he was rushed to SKIMS hospital here with severe head injuries.

Infuriated over the incident, taxi drivers and ponywallas staged violent protests in the area, the sources said.

Law enforcing agencies fired smoke shells to disperse the protesters, they said.

Superintendent of Police Ganderbal, Shahid Mehraj, said the situation has been brought under control.
