A special team of the Ambala district police today nabbed gangster Tarsem Rana and his two aides, accused in several cases of extortion, from Madhya Pradesh.

Police Commissioner Ajay Singhal said Rana had been absconding since February 3 when he and his gang members allegedly shot at a trader from Ambala Cantt, critically injuring the latter and his servant. Police had announced a reward on Rs 50,000 leading to the arrest of the assailants.

Rana and his two aides were arrested early today from Naya Gaon in Madhya Pradesh, the Police Commissioner said, adding that a pistol, a country made revolver, 16 live cartridges and two stolen cars had been seized from them.

The accused were brought to the city this afternoon and produced before a court, which remanded them in police custody for five days.

On February 3, Rana and his accomplices had allegedly fired at trader Himanshu when he had refused to pay money demanded by the gangster. Himanshu and his servant, Rinku, were critically injured in the attack.
