Ambala Police Commissioner O P Singh today made a surprise visit to the Central jail here and assessed the security arrangements of the high-security prison.
Singh also listened to the grievances of jail inmates and visited the kitchen of the jail to check the meal being prepared for the jail inmates.
He went to a century-old execution home of the jail where Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi, was hanged in 1949, officials said.

Some of the relatives of the inmates also met Singh outside the jail premises. They requested him to direct the jail authorities to make better arrangements for them to meet their relatives lodged in the jail.
Later, talking to media persons, Singh said he was of the view that Ambala Jail road should be made a 'no vehicle zone', especially during morning and evening hours, so that the residents could take morning and evening walk freely.
