Ambedkar statue found vandalised, angry locals block road

Angry locals today protested and blocked roads after a statue of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar was found vandalised in rural area of Bilhaur here, police said.

The statue in Aliyapur village near Bilhaur was found vandalised this morning, SP (Rural) Surendra Tiwari said.

This made the villagers angry following which they protested and blocked the Bilhaur road, Tiwari said.

Senior police officials arrived at the scene and assured to install a new statue at the site following which the villagers were pacified, the SP said, the locals unblocked the road after the assurances.

Tiwari said police are trying to find out persons responsible for the vandalisation.
 

A case has been registered against unidentified persons and investigation is underway, he said.
