Actress Amber Heard is in talks to join the cast of Warner Bros' "Aquaman" as the female lead, Mera.

If a deal is made, Heard, 29, will star opposite Jason Momoa in the movie, said The Hollywood Reporter.

Mera is the love interest of Aquaman and eventual queen of Atlantis.

First appearing in 1963, the character's powers include the ability to control and even solidify water.

Mera will make appearance first in "Justice League", the movie that introduces various characters and story threads to fully launch the cinematic universe based on the DC Entertainment characters.

Warner Bros had no comment.

James Wan is attached to direct "Aquaman", which is undergoing a dual-track development, meaning there are two separate scripts that are being worked on concurrently.

David Leslie Johnson, who is Wan's writer on "The Conjuring 2", is working on one script. The other one is being penned by Kurt Johnstad, who wrote "300" with Zack Snyder.

Synder is directing "Justice League", producing "Aquaman" and is one of the architects of the DC movieverse.

"Justice League" is set to begin shooting in April and is slated for a November 17, 2017, release in the US. "Aquaman" is due to hit the US theatres eight months later on July 27, 2018.
