Ambernath municipal council officer held for accepting bribe

A deputy chief officer of Ambernath Municipal Council was arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly accepting bribe of Rs 40,000 here today, a senior officer said.

Sangram Narvekar was apprehended by the Thane unit of ACB when he was allegedly accepting the money from complainant in his car, said ACB (Thane) SP Sandeep Karnik.

The officer said that Narvekar initially sought the illegal gratification of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant who had urged the former to take action against an illegal garage constructed in a housing society.

However, Narvekar finally settled for Rs 40,000 while the complainant approached the ACB and a trap was laid.
 

An offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the civic officer.
