The National Mazdoor Conference (NMC) today demanded that the government order imposing a ban on the regularisation of daily wagers be amended, emphasizing the need to adopt a comprehensive policy to give permanent jobs to casual labourers employed in various state departments since March 1994.
NMC president Subash Shastri said such an amendment should be effected on December 5, the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Sheikh Mohd Abdullah, so that the new regularisation policy could become operational from January 1, as a "New Year Gift" to the working class.
Addressing a workers' rally at the Green Belt Park in Gandhi Nagar, he appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Finance Minister A R Rather to sympathetically consider their demand.
