"Tripura government considered it expedient to include public servants within the purview of Lokayukta Act, so as to give clean, transparent and corruption free administration to people," Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said before the amendment was passed by the house.
The state government appointed Pradip Kumar Sarkar, former judge of the Gujarat High Court, as Tripura's Lokayukta in December last year following ascent of the president to the Tripura Lokayukta Act passed by the assembly in 2008.
Government officials were not included in the act earlier.
Leader of Opposition Ratan Lal Nath has criticized the amended bill for not bringing the Tripura Tribal Autonomous District Council under the purview of the bill.
