Madras High Court has appointed R Devaprasad, advocate, as Amicus curiae in the matter relating exclusive public toilets-cum bathroom for transgenders.
The First Bench Comprising Chief Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice M Sundar said "wefeel that since larger issue is involved, the prevalent practices in this behalf in other parts of the country or any international norms in this behalf can be placed before us by the amucus curie".
The bench was hearing a PIL filed by one Devarajan yesterday seeking a direction to the state Government to build exclusive Public toilets-cum bathrooms to transgenders.

The State Government authorities had sought for two months time to file the counter.
According to petitioner the census taken in the year 2011 shows that there is around 10 lakhs of transgender in the state. They were identified as third category in Tamil Nadu apart from Male and Female.
The Government Pleader furnished a letter from the Government seeking some inputs from the Director of Social Welfare specifically in respect of the department dealing with the subject matter of Third Gender Welfare and sought two months time to file a detailed Counter.
The bench posted the matter for further hearing to April 3.
